Over 7 Diabetes Complications to look out for

Over 7 Diabetes Complications That You Must Look Out For
Did you know that long-term diabetes complications develop over time?
The longer you have diabetes, and the less control your blood sugar is, the higher your risk of complications.
Eventually, diabetes complications can be life-threatening or disabling.
Possible complications include:
1. Cardiovascular disease: if you have diabetes, you are more susceptible to heart disease or stroke, heart attack, narrowing of arteries and coronary artery disease with chest pain.
2. Nerve damage (neuropathy): excess sugar in the body damages the walls of tiny capillaries (blood vessels) that nourish your nerves, especially your legs. This can cause tingling, numbness, burning or pain that usually begins at the tips of the toes or fingers and gradually spreads upward. If left untreated, you could lose all sense of feeling in the affected limbs. Damage to the nerves related to digestion can cause problems with nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or constipation. For men, it may lead to erectile dysfunction.
3. Kidney damage (Nephropathy): the kidneys contains millions of tiny blood vessel clusters (glomeruli) that filters waster from the blood. Diabetes can damage this delicate filtering system. Severe damage can lead to kidney failure or irreversible kidney disease which may require dialysis or transplant.
4. Eye damage (retinopathy): Diabetes can damage tiny blood vessels of the retina (diabetic retinopathy), potentially leading to blindness. Diabetes also increases the chances of other serious conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma.
5. Foot damage: Nerve damage in the feet or poor blood flow to the feet increases the risk of various foot complications, which can eventually lead to amputation.
6. Skin problems: Diabetes can leave you more susceptible to skin damage including bacterial and fungal infections.
7. Hearing Impairment: hearing problems are more common in people with diabetes.
8. Alzheimer’s disease: type 2 diabetes may increase the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. The poorer your blood sugar control is, the greater the risk appears to be.
Having a proper control of your blood sugar is the number 1 way of living without diabetes. These complications are deadly and kill faster than you think.
