PCOS: The Untold Story of the Toughest Female Infertility Issue

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a problem in women which is always as a result of hormonal imbalances. PCOS can cause irregular periods and make it difficult to conceive. PCOS if left unattended to can affect your external beauty and also lead to Diabetes and heart disease. Many women that suffer from PCOS have many small cysts grow on their ovaries, and that is why it is called polycystic ovarian syndrome. The cysts are not harmful, but they do lead to hormonal imbalances.

Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent long-term complications and can help control the symptoms.

Understanding Hormones

Hormones are responsible for the control of body processes. Often, the job of a hormone is to signal the release of another hormone. But in PCOS, the hormone are just out of balance and as a result, there is a malfunction and invariably affects the female fertility.

Causes

The cause of PCOS is not fully understood, but it has been linked to genetic factors. PCOS runs in families and can be passed from mother to child or if it runs in your father’s family. Your chances are higher if there are women with irregular periods or diabetes in your family.

Signs and symptoms of PCOS

  • Acne.
  • Weight gain and trouble losing weight.
  • Extra hair on the face and body. Often women get thicker and darker facial hair and more hair on the chest, belly, and back.
  • Thinning hair on the scalp.
  • Irregular periods. Often women with PCOS have fewer than nine periods a year. Some women have no periods. Others have very heavy bleeding.
  • Fertility problems; anovulation, etc. Many women who have PCOS have trouble getting pregnant (infertility).
  • Depression.
  • Insulin resistance (Type 2 Diabetes)
  • Hormonal imbalance; extremely high testosterone

PCOS and the candida connection

There is a growing evidence that PCOS, miscarriage and infertility can be directly related to candida (yeast overgrowth in the gut).

Candida is always present in the gut, but where the issue lie is when the number of beneficial bacteria and candida get out of balance, and candida begins to take over.

This imbalance can be as a result of the following:

  • Taking artificial hormones such as pills or other hormonal birth control
  • Antibiotics (antibiotics kills all bacterial both good and bad ones)
  • Eating high carb and high sugar diets
  • Consuming caffeinated drinks or substances
  • Taking immunosuppressive drugs,
  • Stress
  • If you are taking progesterone, candida thrives on progesterone and it will only make it worse if you have candida.

Candida if left untreated can lead to serious complications such as leaky gut syndrome, colitis, Crohn’s disease and of course PCOS (which comes with it symptoms).
